Just playing around with my logo a bit, and experimenting with some of the new features in Photoshop CS2.

Thanks. As I said, mostly just fooling around, and avoiding finishing harder and more worthwhile items

haha, yeah, know the feeling.

*wrinkles nose* The soft glow makes it feel a little to Apple-y. Otherwise, gorgeous button. It looks like PS/CS2 is well-designed time-waster.

Well, looking Apple-ey was what I was going for when I made it. Nothing wrong with the look of Apple's stuff. Its certainly prettier to look at than Microsoft. As a company they might make some silly business mistakes sometimes, but they know visual design.

Maybe, maybe. I was raised to understand Apple as "Microsoft for Dumb People." Thus, the glossy colors and soft glows of the interface remind me of an asylum's padded room - designed to make sure no one hurts themselves. A lot of that is an out-dated association, but it sticks with me.
:icontaellosse:
Strictly speaking, it was never really accurate. Apple's generally been "computers that actually work all the time, instead of just more often than not. Plus, good at things like design and visual appeal and graphical functionality, rather than merely number crunching."

Microsoft's talent has never been the production of an effective product. Their talent has always been marketing and ruthless business practices. Those are both areas that Apple has historically been much less skilled at (they've gotten much better at marketing, but they're still making some unwise business decisions), and it has hurt them over the years. That doesn't mean their products were ever lacking.

*grins*

Well, both make sacrifices in functionality and reliability for ease of use and visual appeal. I have a favorite button addressing the topic of popular operating systems. Thus it runs: "Working with Linux is like wrestling with a worthy opponent. Working with Windows is like tackling a small child carrying a .38"
:icontaellosse:
Personally I'm not keen on fighting with my computer at all. And I certainly don't want it to put up a fight. Of course, I'm not excited about the idea of getting shot by accident, either.

To further the analogy, working with Mac OS X is like wrestling with a pretty girl who's covered in lubricant. Sometimes its aweful hard to pin her down and get her to do what you want, but at least its fun to look at and play with.
